Reduce waste: buy in bulk
When it comes to plastics the numbers are pretty alarming. According to Plastics New Zealand, around 252,000 tonnes of plastic waste goes to our landfills every year.
Buying everyday household products in bulk is one way to help reduce the amount of plastic going to landfills and even though the up-front cost is more, it can also help you save a few dollars.
Having a couple of funnels makes the job of refilling a lot easier - you can find them in most plastics or hardware shops as well as some second hand shops.
It’s good to have smaller bottles or containers to refill into as the bulk sizes tend to be too heavy for regular use and you can easily end up wasting some of the product by accidentally using too much.
Make sure the containers that you’re refilling have the correct labels with ingredient and dosage information as well as any safety precautions. It’s important to keep your cleaning products away from children but if they do come into contact with any of your cleaners then it’s vital that the bottles have the correct labels.
If you have any other useful tips to help others who are thinking about buying in bulk then we’d love to hear them.
