How labels put the power in your hands

The choices you make at your local supermarket are a powerful way to vote for the kind of world you want to see. When we walk down the aisles and look at all the personal care and cleaning products, it can be hard to make these choices.

We think reading labels is a really important part of the product purchase decision so that you’re fully informed.

There are so many chemicals – more than 80,000, in fact – that manufacturers can use in their product formulas. And many of these aren’t proven to be safe for our health.

Australian manufacturers aren’t legally required to put their full ingredient list on labels, but at ecostore we spell out everything our products include, as well as what we choose to leave out. Knowing what’s in the products you buy is especially important for anyone with sensitivities or allergies.

Some ingredients might have names that are hard to understand, or are reduced to an abbreviation. If you saw CAPB on a label, would you know it was a surfactant, for example?

We also use product labels as a chance to tell you about the third party certifications we hold, which let you know that we make our products with care and respect for the environment, that we don’t test on animals and that our packaging can be recycled.

The label pictured here gives you all this information, but visit our website if you want to know more about our ingredient choices.

If you read our labels, you might notice there aren’t many ingredients. When it comes to product formulation, we firmly believe less is more and we leave out any unnecessary chemicals.

We also think it’s important to buy from companies you’ve developed trust in, so if reading labels in detail and researching ingredients isn’t possible, you can rely on those companies to do the hard work for you.
