Auckland needs angels to help out at Christmas

Many of us know Christmas can be a time of increased hardship and stress for anyone let alone those who are living in poverty or are homeless which is one of the reasons we appreciate the City Mission and are happy to help them out this year. If you’re also able to help them, the Mission has come up with lots of ways you can:

Become Someone’s Angel Auckland City Mission are trying to raise $1 million from their Christmas Appeal to help families in desperate need, so they’re encouraging their Christmas Day volunteers, businesses, schools, community groups, and all of their supporters to set up an online fundraising page and to get as many sponsors as possible. They have 150 Angels signed up already and have raised almost $40,000 - a fantastic start.

If you think you just might be able to sprout some wings - take a look at their microsite: Become Someone’s Angel.

Santa’s Helpers Corporates and other community groups can take on internal goods and cash collection drives inside their office or workplace. Approx 170 Santa’s Helpers have signed up so far - if your business or other group would like to help Santa you can register on the Auckland City Mission website.

Silo Park/ Wynyard Christmas Quarter An Angel Wishing tree will be put up in Auckland’s Silo Park for supporters to tie their angel wings to. You can get angel wings from the collectors who will be there every Thurs-Sun throughout December for a gold coin donation. You can also pick up some angel wings from any Auckland branch of the ASB. Branches are also drop off points for goods donations and/or new, unwrapped Christmas presents people would like to donate.

Christmas lunch This year the Mission’s annual Christmas lunch will be catering for 2500 people at the Viaduct Events Centre - a wonderful community celebration to make Christmas happen for Aucklanders who have nowhere else to turn. This year ecostore will be donating products to both the Christchurch and Auckland City Missions to help clean up after their Christmas day lunches as well as giving 700 beautifully boxed soaps to Christchurch for each of the guests.
